ABOUT US
We at the Pendulum Foundation believe that the only real prison is the prison of the heart. Our mission is to physically, emotionally and spiritually free all of our young men and women whose childhoods have been lost, and who have been thrown away in Colorados prison system.
Established as a non-profit in 2001, Pendulum is dedicated to educating the public about the issue of children in adult prisons, and in transforming the lives of all those youthful offenders who are currently behind bars.
Colorado has approximately 50 juveniles serving life without parole (LWOP). Pendulum stays in close written contact with those young men and women, plus other youths serving long prison sentences. Because of our unusual access to offenders and their families, we can provide comprehensive background data for researchers documenting the lives of children in adult prisons. We have received extensive media interest, a necessity for educating citizens and combating the myth vs. the reality of children serving hard time.
Pendulums volunteers and grantwriter are diligently working to take into prisons restorative justice, yoga, and other transformational programs, including an Arts-in-Prison program. In addition, our grantwriter is collaborating with several government agencies to provide youthful prisoner re-entry programs. Finally, weve teamed with Colorados Department of Corrections, as well as other non-profits, to provide programs for youthful offenders currently incarcerated at Colorados Youth Offender System (YOS).
Here at Pendulum we offer information on many aspects of how juveniles are treated in our judicial system. Since so many of them are being transfered into the adult system, we question why since our government designed a Juvenile Justice System for all juvenile offenders. And if that system was designed for that purpose, then treating them as adults is unfair, unnecessary, without conscience and completely against the principals our ancestors founded our nation on.
Each month we will profile one of Colorados juveniles who is serving LWOP or the equivalent thereof. While we are always mindful of victims suffering and never seek to diminish the impact of our LWOPs crimes, we believe their voices must also be heard. We at Pendulum Foundation believe in redemption rather than retribution and that all children deserve a second chance.
