NATHAN'S STORY
Nathan Ybanez was brutally abused by both his mother and father. He repeatedly tried to run away from home.
Friends in the affluent community in which he lived contacted Department of Human Services and the Sheriff's department, seeking help for Nathan.
No one intervened.
At 16, Nathan killed his mother. His friend, Erik Jensen, was there during part of the struggle.
Nathan and Erik went to trial right after Columbine. Both received life without parole sentences.
